Question:

I have 3 small african cichlids and just added a small parrot fish (south american). Should I have done that?

I have a 56 gallon tank and used to have african cichlids before so I know they are mean however I like the parrot fish. They are getting along so far.

  1. It may be ok but I suggest to remove it eventually or you may have pieces of Parrot every where


  2. a 56 gallon tank MAY be big enough to house these types together, as long as you don't start overcrowding the space. As a rule of thumb, however, the peaceful parrot should NEVER be placed with the aggressive cichlid. Watch them closely and be ready to intervene (and possibly have another tank prepared to house your parrot) if there are any problems.  

  3. no you should not have done that. The river that the south american cichlids come from is obviously going to be different than the lakes that the african cichlids come from. Dont mix the two. How could you possibly create the best environment for your fish if they are from two different areas of the world?
