I have 3 tiger barb fish and they aren't schooling?

I meant that I have 4, sorry. We just got them tonight. It is our first run with fish for about 12 years. We have a 10 gallon tank and lots of plants and when we put them in there they all went their seperate ways and hide a lot. I want more, but there is the inches rule, because we were going to add a catfish that looks like a shark and a snail. I want 6 barbs because aI like to watch them swim in schools, but I don't want to overdo it.

Schooling Fish need to be in groups of 5+ before they start schooling.
