I have 4 budgies, 3 boys and 1 girl

Romeo-male green budgie, he looked second oldest, sweet, him and Zazu were close to each other protected Zazu from Tweety Juliet and him were somewhat close

Zazu-male blue budgie, looks the youngest him and Romeo were close to each other Juliet and him were somewhat close,

Juliet renamed Julio when found out gender -male yellow budgie nicest

Tweety-female yellow budgie territorial aggressive to other birds but close to Juliet

about a month ago, one of the boys named Romeo, a green boy budgie died, my little brother found him, he from what my sisters described (I didnt look, because I was disturbed) grotesque, and bloody with his feathers ripped off, his eye was bloody too.

He was stuck onto the bottom of the cage, and took sometime to take him off carefully.

I think that they may have had a fight, because he was acting normal previously before the incident happened.

any ideas on what happened would be great, so I can be at peace.

about 3-4yrs

  1. it sound like he was killed in battle you might want to get more females cause it sounds like there ready for mating

  2. Your budgies might of been fighting over the girl.

As a sign of dominance, Romeo lost.

It is a natural thing in the wild... So don't worry, maybe nextime get 2 boys and 2 girls =]

  3. It does sound like there was a fight and your poor bird was killed.Pair-bonding can cause some birds to become very aggressive. My grandfather bred parakeets and had over 100 birds in his aviary. During breeding season, fights were quite common;these little birds can be quite vicious fighters. It took human intervention and a water hose to break up some of the fights! And sometimes, the humans were injured.

I am sorry for your loss. These things do happen.

  4. Sounds like it was a fight to me. They can get quite aggressive. They have even been known to be able to kill a cockatiel. Watch closely and see if one is bullying the others more than just the little squabbles that they normally might have.
