I do not care about having bass for 5.1 surround. I just want to hook up 4 speakers through a receiver to my Television. Does that mean I need a receiver that has 4 stereo audio outputs?

  1. You can still use a STEREO amplifier with your setup, just set the back speakers on the B speaker output....

Nowadays, Standard Stereo recievers may be listed as a 2.0 or 2.1 (uses a subwoofer) amplifier....

The better investment is to buy a 7.1 Dolby amplifier and deactivate the subwoofer and center channel in the setup menu....they are designed to do that so you can operate it as a stereo amplifier.

You might even find it easier to get one of those units.....

  2. There is no such thing unless you can find an old quad receiver from the 70's. Just get a 5.1 and turn off the sub and the center outputs.

  3. any with at least 100watts of power but you will not have  5.1 (the . 1 is the sub) and the 5th speaker is the dialog (your center). your sound will sound spaced out because the speaker will try to decode 5.1 with no center. that's where all your voices come from.

you can get a 4 channel stereo receiver for about 1-200$. make sure it says 100x4 not 4 outputs but 200watts per speaker. Then it will divide 50watts to each and lose quality sound and youll find yourself cranking it up more.

  4. If you don't care about surround sound and just want to hear your tv through your four speakers, pretty much any stereo receiver with A/B speaker outputs will work.
