  1. Pleco like tropical water better 86F temp. Gold fish like cold water.

Gold fish make too much waste and proberly kill pleco with there poplution.

  2. goldfish need 2 gallons per inch and tropical fish need 1 gallon per inch. so you are probably overcrowding your fish tank. i would give your fish away or get a bigger tank. the goldfish with 1 tail will grow to be 16 inches. and the koi grow to 3 feet. the goldfish with two tails will grow to be 10 inches long.

  3. Your tank is OVER CROWDED. Goldfish get 12 inches long and they dont just "grow to the size of the tank" and happily stop. They DIE. But your question was about the pleco. It probably died BECAUSE the tank is over crowded. You do realise they eat algea NOT fish food or fish excrement?  You need to have your water checked for: ammonia (and that you used water conditioner does not help ammonia), nitraites and nitrates. These three things come from biological processes AFTER you put fish in the tank. Water conditioner removes chlorine and chloramines. Hope this helped.

  4. WOW dude, you should only have two small goldfish in there maximum! Golfish give off way more ammonia than other fish, and produce way more waste.  The pleco literally suffocated on account of having way to many ammonia-producing fish in there.

  5. they died because its WAY WAY WAY over crowded!!!!!!!! wow! um yah...1 goldfish for every 10 gallons! sorry you can only keep 1 and they pleco was smashed! a pleco gets from 1-2 feet long and need at least a 29+ gallon tank...sorry you can only have 1 goldfish...hoped i helped!

  6. 5 comet/common/feeder goldfish need 130 gallons

5 fancy goldfish need 60 gallons

most plecos need 50+ gallons and are tropical fish

only goldfish should be kept with goldfish

  7. Your tank could be over crowded, but that depends on the size of your goldfish. The other thing that I know kills plecos is that they sometimes either don't eat (they generally need algae), or they don't have wood.

Many plecos need wood to survive. They eat little minuscule amounts. In the case of the clown pleco, that is really their whole diet. So it could be specific to your pleco's species too.

  8. You are waayyyy overstocked. The 1 inch/1 gallon rule doesn't always apply. Goldfish get big (6-8") and they are very messy, dumping a huge bioload on the tank. Basically, you shouldn't even keep one Goldfish in a 10 gallon, let alone 5. To support 5 goldfish over their whole lifespan, you would need a tank at least 150-175 gallons.Goldfish are also coldwater fish (70 degrees F) while plecos and other tropical fish need water with a temperature of about 78-82 degrees Fahrenheit. Plecos also get very large, up to 14". A regular pleco gets way too big for a 10 gallon tank. You should buy a school of 3 otoclincus catfish which don't grow over 3-4", and they clean the algae from your tank like plecos do. I also recommend you get rid of the goldfish, and buy a dwarf gourami, and a school of neon tetras or some other small fish.

  9. every inch is 1.5 gallons i think.. so total of 8 inches, means they need 12.5 gallons....

  10. I was told by a friend to go by the 1 inch per gallon rule. Heres a good site that explains it: http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/beginn...
