I have 5 small bottles of cologne... can I take them to Germany?

I have a gift of five small bottles of cologne (I think they were about 2 oz bottles) that I want to give to a friend in Germany when I go. Can I do this??? Do I declare it on my customs card. I am inexperienced in international travel... any info on customs in general would be appreciated.

Yes you can take them with you and no you do not have to declare them to customs.

If you get a baggage check.....they may ask....but you should have no problems.

Call the Airline you are flying with....they can give you all the information you need for what you can and can't take.

Germany doesn't need declaration of things you bring into the country unless it is Animals, Fresh Fruits, Flowers, Meats, Vegetables, etc.. (things that could bring disease)  You will be ok with the perfume or cologne.  

You will have a problem bringing it through security (unless you buy it inside the airport).  You will have to take the cologne out of the box (keep box to re-package) and put them in a zip lock bag and through security separately by itself.

The thing I would do with the colognes is to package them well. Package them in bubble wrap so they wont break also I would place them in the center of cloths and a zip lock container so, if they happen to break your other item wont smell like Cologne

Place item with check in luggage so you won't have to hassle with security.

You have to put them in your suitcase or they will be taken away. Maybe put them in shoes in your suitcase. It might be better to mail them. You can pack them better and then do not have to worry that the baggage checkers break them when they go through all. I posted two boxes of glass Christmas ornaments this year to Bavaria and they arrived fine. I used a lot of bubble wrap. Try to value them under U.S.$50 if you mail them or Germany will make the receiver pay tax. If you bring them, due to the size, you can always say they are for personal use but I think they charge duty on perfume. A receipt is needed and the date on the receipt can not be older than six months for items like that. I would suggest mailing them if they are special and you want to be sure nothing happens to them. I have mailed tons to Germany in the last ten years and nothing has ever not arrived or gotten broken. Maybe write food on the customs paper and fill the parcel with chips and candy so the German post office will not look in the parcel. Use airmail if you can afford it. It only takes about five or six days.

Germans dont need your stinking cologne... They already  have a Cologne...

In your checked luggage they shouldn't be a problem. But

you might have to open them at the departing airport. So

make sure you

(a) declare them properly

(b) have enough time if they want to check on it

If it's not something specific you'd be better of with buying it

at your destination.

i believe that any form of liquid is forbidden on planes..my little niece couldnt even bring shampoo or deoderant.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! United States' airports don't let anyone bring any liquids on a plane. This is because of the recent attacks in New York City. If you bring them, you'll have to give them up at the airport and the employees may make you get a body check scan. :(
