I have AT&T Go Phone, how is it that I'm receiving calls from Allied Interstate (debt collector)?

As far as I can remember, I have not provided my wireless ph. # to anyone in regards to a bill. Furthermore, since it is a prepaid phone, I cannot figure out how they could associate my number to some sort of debt. I do not have a personal voicemail on my phone either, so they shouldn't even know my name. They leave a message on my voicemail for me to call them back at such and such number, but they do not mention my name in the message. You know, where sometimes when you have an past due payment or something of that nature, they usually say: "This message is for John Doe regarding an overdue payment..." From what little bit of information I can find, I have discovered that people who start getting calls from this company are victims of identity theft and it's got me sort of worried.... I'm not going to call them back. Please HELP!!!

  1. It could be the telephone equivalent of a phishing scam.

All they have to do is associate your name with your phone number, call you, and tell you to call back re: a debt.

  2. You need to call the company, at&t. You really do. Ask them and tell them the whole situation, and basically go off on them.

  3. someone gave them your number.
