I have AT&T U-Verse tv, can you buy a dvr that will let you watch something else while recording?

Currently, I can only watch what I am currently recording with my vcr. AT&T told me that the only way to do this was to buy additional services by having another box just for my vcr or to rent a dvr for another $10 a month.

  1. They are right.  They have to decode the signal.  If you had cable you could Split the signal and run it wherever you wanted.  Sorryyy  :(

  2. U-Verse offers a DVR that would be the most seamless way to do this, and I believe with it you can record up to three other shows while watching something else (only one can be in HD). If you want to use your VCR or another DVR, you'll be stuck only being able to watch what you are recording. Much easier to go the built-in DVR route. Yes, it's more expensive, but it's worth it.
