  1. They are experiencing problems with the updates, i have had to go to Avast as i had this same prob and couldn't get around it. Having been on the AVG forums this is what AVG are saying...........:)

Currently the update for AVG Free v8 is corrupted... you will have to wait for AVG Technologies to address the issue with the update.

Reporting the issue again by other users here will not do any good until it is resolved.

The updates that your AVG currently have will still provide the protection it is setup to detect. In otherwords, just getting this update will not make your AVG Free ineffective and as soon as AVG Tech resolves the issue you will be able to update to the current virus definitions at that time.

So in short... please do not post to report the issue, its already known. Also please be patient until AVG Technologies can address the issue.

Also... for those user that did report the issue... thanks for the info

  2. Delete AVG 8 download free Avast or free Avira - end of problem plus you now have a better AV.

  3. Uninstall and Reinstall again.  Clear your cache.   If that doesn't work:

Run AVG Control Center -> select Update Manager component -> Settings. Set Proxy, Dial-Up tabs (according to the connection type) and URL tab (a default settings is: http://www.grisoft.cz/softw/70/update).

If you use FireWall software, it is necessary to allow AVGINET.EXE and AVGCC.EXE files to have access to:

    - a1683.g.akamai.net

    Hope this Helps

  4. Hi, I have had similar problems with the previous version. To get round it call up Task Manager, then stop AVG 8.0 from running. Then relaunch it from the icon on your desktop. It worked for me but the problem disappeared when I upgraded to AVG 8.0 Free.

    Good Luck

  5. Brooke, make sure you're connected to the internet when you go to update AVG. It sounds simple but sometimes our brains look for the hard answers and we bypass the simple ones as too simple. .

If that doesn't help, find out if you have other security software that could be blocking AVG updates.  Having two security/virus systems can really cause a problem. Do you have a firewall that could keep AVG from updating?

If none of this works, you might try the AVG 8.0 Free Edition forum.  AVG Free doesn't come with technical support but they have a wonderful forum that should certainly be able to assist you, only if here can't of course.

    Good luck.

  6. Mine has been doing the same thing for the past week now.

What I've been doing is, turning my computer off for a little while. Then restarting it.

    That seems to help.
