I am told that firewalls slow the computer down. Should I close down one of these firewalls?

  1. YES!

However, I prefer Zone Alarm free version for a firewall over WinXP built-in firewall.

    HTH!

  2. I use windows default firewall and AVG's i have had no conflicting problems so far. Don't close none down if you close down AVG the basic windows firewall won't stand a chance and having the basic use of windows firewall will help decrease the chance of something nasty slipping by.

  3. Check to see if avg has a firewall if it doesn't then leave windows firewall on. You need a firewall to protect you from hackers etc. You only need one firewall btw. Oh by the way if there is 2 firewalls they will cause conflict on your computer so be careful.

  4. C-bug got it right.  Zone Alarm Firewall is great and free.

Use all that you can but if they conflict with each other, than shut 1 down.

    Better Safe than Sorry.

Also, make sure to regularly back-up your system so you can Restore it if you do get a Virus, Bug, Worm, Trojan, Time Bomb, etc.

  5. You do not need both firewalls, you should only have one firewall. If you do; you will most likely encounter connection issues with local network or even some internet. I'd recommend closing the XP built in firewall and using the AVG firewall.

    Hope this helps.
