  1. You only need one anti-virus.

Two anti-virus programs not only conflict with one another but also slow down the system.

Most malwares are designed to attack popular

antivirus products (like Symantec, Norton or McAfee), but since free anti-virus product is much less used, it's capable of fighting the viruses when industry leaders fail.

    Keep Avast.

Install spybot search and destroy, update, scan, remove spyware and immunise your system.

Spybot search and destroy is the best free anti-spyware tool that contains many features. it is better than ad-aware.

Spybot search and destroy immunize your computer against spyware.

It modifies Internet Explorer to block a lot of the bad stuff known to Spybot.

There is a second layer of protection for IE that blocks anything that should come through by different aspects.

  2. Both antivirus programs will interfere with each other and make you less protected, pick one and uninstall the other.

Firefox has less holes in its security, runs faster, has more options and add-ons, and just looks cleaner and more well designed.

  3. Yes if both Avast and McAfee are antivirus software.  You can only run one antivirus or you will have serious conflict with your system. You can run four or even five antispyware if you have the resources.  CPU & RAM.  One will always find what the others miss.

  4. having two antiviruses won't necessarily crash a computer........ it just makes it slower.... and sometimes the two security softwares fight each other...... so it isn't a good idea....

    =======

firefox is better than ie because:

    1. firefox is more customizable then ie... lots of themes and add-ons

            i suggest the following add-ons:

                      mcafee site advisor

                      stumble-upon

                      flashgot

and ad-block ( to avoid adware)

for the theme, it is your desicion

    2. firefox is more secure than ie........

firefox 3 warns you when you try to open a site that hosts

                    malware....

here is the link to firefox main page...

  5. One of the main reason why its crashing is because McAfee and Norton are nortorius programs that will shut down a computer especiallly with the influx of the new viruses.  Specifically with the WinAntivirus 20xx and ESPECIALLY the  Vista Antivirus 2008.  For  some strange unknow reason (Blink Blink) Norton and McAfee will not recognize them.

In my experience, another reason it may be crashing is because you have 2 anti virus programs competing and neutralizing each other. This is especially true that McAfee and Norton have the ability to detect another anti viruis program.

FireFox used to be better then IE because it prevented advertising and popups.  I find that FireFox is now weakening in this area.

    Hope this information helps.

    Good Luck
