  1. No-it is meant to cover you until you get other coverage. It is not meant to be supplemental.

EDIT:Make sure the group insurance is EFFECTIVE prior to canceling the COBRA. Any medical expenses incurred prior to the group insurance effective date should be billed to the COBRA policy.

  2. If your wife is covered on BOTH your COBRA  plan AND her group health insurance, then yes, it will work as dual coverage.  However, if she is not on your COBRA plan, then she gets no help from your insurance.

You CAN have both COBRA and Group Medical, it is just a prohibitively expensive idea, in most cases.

I hope your wife recovers well, swiftly and safely.

  3. Her insurance is primary, yours is secondary.

  4. You don't mention if your wife is on your COBRA, it sounds like from your wording that only you have COBRA.  However, I have to assume you meant that she is on your COBRA.

Two things.  #1...I don't think you are allowed to have COBRA once you enroll into another group health plan.

#2.  Assuming that #1 is wrong, your wife's coverage would be primary since it is through HER job.  The COBRA coverage would be secondary, and the COBRA coverage would not pay out anything until they see that her insurance company has paid out all they can.

Insurance companies have their own COB (Coordination of Benefits) departments that track these things very carefully.  I get the impression that their job is to try to figure out how to NOT pay for a claim at all times.
