I have Cox cable and a new high def tv..how can I view channels without the box?

I can get the major network channels in high def but none of the cable channels in high def.

You can get your local channels in HD since they are being broadcasted locally and you can pick them up for free over the air. All the other national channels are not local, and do not broadcast to the public. In order to get these channels you need to subscribe to a satellite/cable provider. So unless you're happy with your 2-10 channels you get for free, you must get HD service from a provider.

Maybe becuase the cable channels don't broadcast in HD?
