I have Dish Satellite HD service. Can I add a dvr without having to pay additional fees?

  1. well, yeah - you can - but you won't get the optimum situation - but you can have a DVR without paying fees... here are your options:

    1) Buy a DVR on the open market - one that is set up for use with sat service - you can find them on Ebay for about $150

    2) Buy a Tivo that has lifetime service with it - these too are avail on Ebay but they tend to go for $400 or more.

    3) Call your sat company and tell them you will re-up if they throw in DVR service... they may do this, but most will only give you the DVR for free and charge you the $4.95 per month for the unit OR they may throw in the unit and service for 6 months or a year... but probably not longer than that.

  2. i use a dvd recorder at home running dvd-ram discs in it.... it records constantly what i was just watching and i can do the whole pause live tv thing.... but on top of it all, if i like what i just recorded, swap discs and keep the other one or empty it onto your pc of a cheaper dvd-r disc
