  1. Sorry to hear about your pain.

There are several medications that affect the estrogen stimulating hormones that lead to the growth of endometriosis.

    There are birth control pills;

Gonadotropin Releasing Hormone agonists & antagonists that create an artificial menopause & stop pain. It can even force endometriosis into remission.  It can cause side effects like hot flashes & vaginal dryness.  However, a low dose of estrogen can lessen those side effects.

Danazol is another ovarian stimulating hormone which suppresses menstruation & the growth of the endometrium.  However, it can cause acne & facial hair.

Aromatase inhibitors prevents estrogen from forming & halts growth of endometrium.

There are new preventive surgical treatments in which the uterus is washed in solutions that create a coating that prevent new adhesions from forming & dissolves when it is no longer needed.

Then there is a choice of laproscopic removal.  However, if it did not help you at all, it's a moot suggestion.

I would suggest speaking to your GYN & even getting a 2nd opinion with an expert in treating endometriosis because MDs are often too quick to use hysterectomy as a solution.

    Google:  mayo clinic>>diseases>>endometriosis

    medlineplus>>health topics>>endometriosis

    Good luck to you.

  2. Medications help so you need to speak to your Doctor about what is available. Laser treatments have had a lot of success.

  3. Several years ago I had an 'edometrial resection', as a result of endometriosis. They use lasers and permanently remove the lining of the uterus. It involved only an overnight stay and couple of weeks rest at home. It cured my problem immediately after years of suffering. Whether you are eligible for this might depend on your age and if sometime in the future you will want to have children, as the procedure usually stops you having periods. Ask your doctor about it. You have my sympathy, endometriosis is h**l to cope with  Good luck.

  4. I can absolutely sympathise with you hun, I suffered with endometriosis from about 13 up until recently.

I had 6 laparoscopies with laser treatments, they sometimes helped for a few months, sometimes they didn't, it seemed to depend on what point in my cycle they did the operations at. The later in my cycle, the less effect they had. I did get a good 2 years endo free. from one operation.

I got some relief from going on the depo provera contraceptive injection but that isn't for everyone and it can have side effects itself, some people get relief from the pill as well, but is didn't work for me.

I was given a 3 month course of a drug called Zoladex, it inhibits certain hormones and ease endometriosis but it can only be used for a little while I was told.

I then tried a drug called Danazol, these were tablets my GP prescribed me, they gave me acne but really helped my endo.

At the moment I am having Provera tablets and accupuncture and this is helping me at the moment.

There are a few treatment options open to you, so I would consult with your gynaecologist (or whoever did your laparoscopy) and ask them about the options you have open to you, depending on your age and whether or not you have had children, there might more options open to you than medical interventions.

I have also been offered a hysterectomy, which I will take eventually but I was told there are other procedures available but I need to complete my family first.

I really sympathise with you, I know exactly how you feel.
