I have uninsured motorist i add my husband on the moring of the accident because we were going out of town and he was driving that evening we were hit. The insurance is using that as an excuse

It doesn't matter who was driving, you are still covered as long as you had uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. Don't let them play you. Go to your agent and raise h**l.

Look at the time on the effective date of the insurance.  It can never be back dated to a time before you purchased it, and it is usually set to be in effect at midnight of the day you purchased it.

So if you added your husband in the morning, he really wouldn't be covered until the next day, because 1 second after midnight is the following day.

It is not an excuse, it's the usual way of doing business.

usually takes 24 hours to add someone to the policy, ie the effective date is the next day at midnight.

why was he not on the policy to begin with if he was your husband?

If they are a phone center ask them to listen to the call, and look at the time of the transaction.

With everything in the computer age, things have time stamps. If you have a copy of the fax, it also has a time stamp.
