I was one that was bad about adding sources in the beginning and now I have to catch up.

I had the Legacy FREE Standard edition, and recently upgraded to DELUXE version.

is what we call a "Real" genealogy board. It is much smaller than Y!A board but much more tightly focused. You could ask there.

I use Roots Magic, not Legacy, but the clutch, brake and turn signals on a Ford are pretty similar to those of a Chevy.

In RM, when you add a new source, such as "US Census, 1880", you tell it where the source resides (call number, if it is a book, who has it, if it is a family Bible, the URL if it is a web site.) You don't have to repeat all that once you add it, you just tell RM you are going to cite an existing source. Every time you cite a source you can get specific; page number if it is a book, state, county and ED if it is a census, etc.

Exactly how you want to break it down is up to you. For example, I have a couple of thousand citations for the US Census. I have one entry in the source list for each year:

    US Census, 1850

    US Census, 1860

    US Census, 1870

    etc.

I put the exact state, county, ED and page in the individual citation. You could have one general source, "US Census" and put the year in the individual citation.

You could have one general source, "Obituaries" and cite whose, the date, page and newspaper when you cite one for specific individuals, or have one source entry for each obit you cite.
