  1. Open Office can open ALL MS Office files. Be sure to save them when you edit by using file/save as and select Microsoft word 97/98/2000 .doc as the type, then Word can still read them. You can set a default from the Tools menu to make it save them as this.

  2. This should work http://docx-converter.com/

  3. All you need to do is when you click save as in open office writer, click the drop down arrow and click .doc format and then click save. Then you can open your documents in Microsoft word and openoffice

  4. Yes you can.

You can take your Microsoft Word .doc files from school and open them in Open Office.  You can also create documents in Open Office and save them as Microsoft Word documents.

Be sure to save your Open Office files in the proper Word version.  There are several.  If you are not sure what version of Word you will use to open the files, save for Word 97.

If you try to open a document from an older Word version in a newer Word program, Word will ask if you want it to update the document format to the correct version for that particular Word program.  If you are using only one version of Word, is perfectly fine to save in that particular version.

If you are using multiple versions of Word, the newer Word files may not open in the older Word programs; however, both Word and Open Office can save newer Word documents into older Word formats to prevent this problem.

If ever in doubt, save to the older Word format.
