We moved to here in these apartments in Jan,2008(Winter). In opposite to our apartment, there r bunch of trees. Now, its summer, so we have seen all greenery, fine. But, we wondered that, couple of very tall/big trees has never got the leaver, looks like they totally dried, with out a single leaf on them!!! actually, we r thinking that, slowly leaves comes out, but, till now, no indication that, the leaves wuld come out!! so, pls. let me know that(i dont know these trees names, species, genera),

1- How its possible that, tree never showing up any getting leaves?

2- even I dod not see any greenery part on it, so, How photosyntehsis do occur & there by making food!!

3 - Does it mean that, these tree gets leaves once per a couple of years?

  1. They may be deciduous trees or trees of xerophytic family.

A photo or location details and more description of the tree stem or trunk will help  to answer. Like smooth, greenish bark, cracked dark coloured bark, knotts on the braches and spines or thorns.

Many trees need a little photosynthesis to be done and stem takes care of that. Because of lignin present in stem alongwith chlorophyll it may not look green.

These trees have deep roots and many a time store food and hence survive long periods of leafless conditions.
