  1. Only to add to fhotoace here.

Shutter speed and aperture combine to create a proper exposure. You will need a guide of some sort to do that. Your in camera meter is one (if it still works) and this is another http://www.fredparker.com/ultexp1.htm

    http://www.butkus.org/chinon/pentax/pent... here is the manual.

    4. The K1000 is fully manual. So any fully manual flash will work. Any flash that says it automatic just means you have to put the aperture to what that "automatic" setting is. Any fully adjustable manual flash will give you alot more control. You can choose the aperture and set the flash to what you want, not setting the aperture to what the flash wants. Once you dive into flash photography more this will make sense to you.

    5. refer to the first link I gave.

    6. The battery slot on the bottom of the camera is (if I understand what your asking) where you insert a coin to turn the battery cover and unscrew it. You can find a replacement battery at your local Radioshack.

  2. You can learn all that by taking a class at your local community college or local camera store

Numbers 1, 2 and 5 will be covered in detail in a class.

    These questions are answered here:

    3. a camera store will be glad to show you haw to load your film.

    4. if you buy a Pentax dedicated flash, it will utilize all the features the engineers designed into the camera and flash.

    6. is easy .. it is the battery that powers the light meter and auto-focus

  3. The Owner's Manual for the camera should explain everything.

Another excellent resource is "How To Choose & Use Pentax SLR Cameras" by Carl Shipman. Its an expanded version of the Owner's Manual with more illustrations and lengthier explanations of your camera's features and functions.

I also suggest "Object & Image: An Introduction To Photography, Third Edition"  by George M. Craven.
