I had surgery to get a titanium rod in my spine, October of 2007.

Now just about everyday my shoulder hurts, really bad.

It feels as if someone was pouring acid on it.

It usually happens if I've been standing up, making breakfast/lunch/dinner, cleaning, exersicing, and so on.

I was wondering if anything was wrong with my back/shoulder since the surgery.

It's hurt since then.

  1. if it is a painful almost burning pain, it sounds like nerve pain and usually resolves itself, but it can take awhile. i have had nerve pain after surgeries and it is quite intense, but has gone away after a few months. just take advil, use warm or cold compresses and mention it to your doc as well.

  2. This is something to ask your surgeon about.  If you're pinching a nerve because you're bent in a new way, it could be an issue.

I do have something sort of related.  Every once in awhile, the top of my rod (Luque rods are a step back in technology) seems to stick into the muscles by my right shoulder blade.  Since it hurts, I can usually get my wife to message it out.  Makes it a lot better.
