When kitty uses this his pee pee does clump, but it goes all the way to the bottom and adheres to the box. It's very hard to get it un-adhered from the litter box. Also, it sticks to the litter scooper and is hard to get off that too. Is this just because of the Brand I am using or do all clumping litters do this? I put about 3"s in his box and the instructions says to put 2"s. They make it look so nice on TV commercials, but so far I am liking the regular litter better. Plus it costs less. I'd appreciate knowing what others have experienced. Thank you

  1. I don't use clumping or clay litters.  The litter tracks all over the place, it sticks to the pan and makes changing the litter a real chore and  they do little to remove the smell of cat urine.  I used "flushable" litter years ago and ended up having it back up the pipes and poopy water and litter came up through my tub - nasty!

Simple wood stove pellets are the absolute best litter to use.  Not only do they totally remove the urine odor but they absorb the moisture, the pan dumps out dry and the best part? You can buy a 40 pound bag for about FOUR TO FIVE DOLLARS! It's the same compressed pine sawdust pellets as Feline Pine so anyone using that stop wasting your money! Nothing really kills p**p odor plus I don't want my cats to end up with poopy paws so I scoop any poops out daily. With four cats and three litter boxes I dump the pans out after about a week or so. Since the litter's so cheap I don't mind changing it often.

You can find them at Home Depot, Lowes and another homestores and most grocery stores like the Safeway, Fred Meyer and Albertsons stores here in the Northwest US. Feed stores also sell them as farmers/horse owners use them in horse stalls as well

  2. clumping litter is not good for cats. .

Clumping clay kitty litters may be related to a wide variety of seemingly unrelated cat health problems, included diarrhea, frothy yellow vomiting, mega-bowel syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome, kidney problems, respiratory problems, general failure to thrive, anemia, lethargy, and even death.

Clumping litter is designed to form a hard, insoluble mass when it gets wet. It also produces a fine dust when stirred (as when a cat scratches around to bury a recent deposit). And these clumping litters absorb many times their weight in fluids.

When cats or kittens use the litter box, they l**k themselves clean; anything their tongues encounter gets ingested. Kittens especially tend to ingest a lot of litter when they are first learning to use the box.

Once the litter is inside a kitten or cat, it expands, forming a mass and coating the interior-thus, both causing dehydration by drawing fluids out of the cat or kitten, and compounding the problem by preventing any absorption of nutrients or fluids.

the dust can also enter through the uretha and cause urinary tract infections

i use regular fresh step and scoop daily and change once a week.

its much better for your cat.

  3. I love Special Kitty cat litter... except for when I'm using those last few inches.  You need about 6 inches at least in the box to prevent clumping on the bottom.  I use a large covered box and dump half to a whole box of litter in at a time.  Then I use Arm and Hammer Baking soda for cat litter.  I notice the litter only sticks to the scooper whenever I'm on those last few inches.

Again, I've been using the Special Kitty for years.   Our oldest cat is 6 years old.  If you keep enough litter in the box, it doesn't clump on the cats.  Yeah, the tracking all over the place is an issue though.

I may try those wood stove pellets out that someone else suggested.   My problem with the clumping litter is that it is so expensive.

  4. i had the same problem, i started using Equine bedding, it is soooo absorbent and odor free and cost $6.78 for a 50# bag !!!!!!!!! it is a kinda like a small pellet, and the cats like it just fine, it doesn't clump but breaks down when it needs to be changed, try it, I was skeptical at first too but now i love it

  5. hmm?? im lost..

  6. Fresh Results is the best litter. They sell it at Wal Mart

  7. you could try putting down a few sheets (only one will get wet and stick) of newspaper THEN the kitty litter.... no guarantees on this, because if the newspaper gets too wet that will stick too.  but if you clean it often it should work...

also you could try mixing the two types of litter?

  8. Does it look like white rocks in its pee? It is this white supstents that gets stuck in they're blatter. You should go to the vet, and I mean fast.

  9. Try ever clean cat litter. it clumps amazingly, I have 3 cats and i dont have any problems just gotta clean it out often
