  1. Honey, I live in Dublin and my hubby and I have been to Belfast, Portrush and Newry (all in N. Ireland) and have never been asked for ID. I don't even HAVE a passport.

  2. Belfast only. You need a visa for the Republic of Ireland for Dublin.

But be careful traveling to Belfast. As very many people try to travel illegally to Dublin from Belfast, the local police may interview you when you arrive to Belfast. If they suspect that you intend to travel to the south, they can deport you from the UK back to your home country.

Reply to new info: A US green card doesn't help. All that matters is your nationality. If you need a visa for the UK, you'll need a different, Irish, visa to go to Dublin legally. The procedure is similar to getting a UK visa. You need an invitation or a hotel in Dublin, go to the Irish Embassy in either London or the US, pay a fee, wait a few weeks, and see if they issue a visa.

Lots of people go illegally, as I said, as there are few checks on the NI/RoI border, but you risk jail and deportation if you try.

  3. Passage from Belfast to Dublin and visa versa if easy provided you are on holiday and can prove this. There are many people who are here illegally move over the border freely as there are no checks at the border. It is at the airports and docks that the checks are carried out

  4. You can go to Belfast as that is in the UK. Dublin is in the Rep. of Ireland and as such you would not be able to go there.
