Question:

I have a 02' m3 and i notice that my fan turns on when my oil gauge goes past the middle line. what cause it?

when the oil gauge passes the middle mark on my m3 the fan turns on. what is the cause for the oil to heat up and to cause the fan to turn on? I'm confused because the temp. gauge is normal. help!

  1. The oil pressure gauge are a joke anyways, they are not accurate.


  2. are you sure its an oil temp gauge and not an oil pressure gauge. besides oil normally gets hot in a running engine. ive never seen an oil "temp" gauge before.

  3. Your oil gauge measures pressure and not temp. The cause for your oil to heat up is the fact that your oil is being circulated through your engine as it is running. Your fan is not coming on because of the position of your gauge. It may be a coincidence but I assure you that your cooling fan is NOT governed by your oil pressure gauge. IF it is then your m3 has been severely mis wired.
