I took it to Auto Zone for a diag. check and a trans axle module fault came up. They said that it could be a short or open circuit. Please let me know if you have any ideas on this.

  1. Take it to the dealer.

There may be a programming fault, it could be an internal defect in the module, or it could even be something else completely that's causing the problem. It might only need something as simple as reprogramming the module (commonly referred to as a "flash") to fix the problem. That is something most independent shops either don't know about, and simply just can't do.

Also, the dealership will know the vehicle better than any other shop since that's all they work on all day long. The independent shops have to work on everything and don't have the concentrated knowledge the dealership technicians will have. Also, the labor charges are usually about the same as a quality independent shop.

  2. Unfortunately the code that was indicated simply means that the TCM (Transaxle Control Module) has detected a fault. The TCM will store the specific code in it's memory, and will have to be extracted with a suitable scanner.

The PCM must indicate that a companion module has a fault, likely it went to limp mode, but other faults can occur w/o limp-in, so best to address it soon.

  3. It means that the module either has no power or a major internal fault. Going to have to check wiring and maybe replace it.
