It looks a bit odd and I have never seen such a thing on a bill... Is it worth more than a dollar to a collector???.... The bill looks normal in all other aspects excpet for the little green star on the very right hand side of the 1's serial number.... Above the serial number is the stamp of a large black A and the small words of Boston, also within the black colored seal... Thanks for your help.... James

  1. This is called a "Replacement Note." When there is an error in printing, the bill is re-made and the old one destroyed.  The replacement notes have their own serial number range.  ( It may seem complicated; but each  legal-tender has to be accounted for! ) This happens in the U.S. about 1 in every 100,000. Some people collect them for their uniqueness;  ( I own several. ) but it is not really very valuable unless it has a low serial number and is in crisper condition.
