She is from Georgia but her mother and father are from where I am. They moved because of the army. Her grandfather on her dads side passed away the other night so they came up for the funeral and she has been asking me all different kinds of questions about death and why he was so sick(he died because of a heartattck). Im not sure what to say to her because I just lost one of my little 7 year olds at the school that I intern at. I mean there is so much I could say to help her and comfort her, but I dont know if they are the right things to say. Her mother asked me to go to the funeral with them for moral support for Karissa. What do I say and what do I do?

  1. Tell her God called him, and it was his time to go to heaven. He's in a better place now, and he can always be with her, even if she can't see him. Tell her that one day she will see him again, after God calls her home. That may not be for a while, but she can talk to him whenever she feels like it or misses him.

  2. tell her about death without being extremely graphic

  3. I'm confused about your relationship with this girl, but putting that aside she is simply a little girl who needs comforting.  There is no right thing to say.  You can only be there for her and try to say whatever feels right to you, but showing you care is the most important part.
