you could make a platform out of skids

A "cheap temporary" deck will represent more of a danger and hassle than pleasure. I would forget that plan and maybe stack up a few old wooden skids as a platform.

I agree with Rod B.  You could build something low just laying 3/4" plywood on cinder blocks, but if you're trying to get up to 3' high you'll want to build it right.  4x4 posts set on cinder blocks would probably work for a temporary foundation.
