Question:

I have a 120 volt wire that the covering has worn down over the years.?

Normally I would cut the wire and re hook in a j-box, unfortunately this is right at the plate between the 1st and 2nd floor so I have no room to work. The hot wire is barely exposed, didn't find it until I touched it while up against another ground. Would liquid electrical tape work? If not what options do I have?

  1. In order to fix it properly, it's best to replace it.   Can you tell if the wire goes straight down into the basement?  You may be able to fish-in a new wire from the panel.   If it comes from an outlet or light on the first floor, that will be tougher.

If there is no slack on it, and it's impossible to remove and replace it, (at a minimum) I'd put some tape on it.

And protect it from being stepped on again.
