I have a 120v photocell.what the H*ll is it for?

i dont think its used for photography is it used for growing? or something

  1. It's used to control outdoor lighting. When it gets dark out the photocell completes a circuit, like a switch, and can turn a light on.  


  2. It can be used for anything you imagine, although typically, without knowing the specific model number, it's probably designed to turn on and off outdoor lights around dusk - when suitably mounted in an environmentally appropriate container.

  3. yup, its a photocell... you'll need to check what voltage it is rated for (like 120v or 24v) it should be labeled, like david said it looks like a photocell to turn outdoor lights on and off at dusk and dawn... one wire, probably the red is the output wire that switches on and off when light is applied and removed from the optic reciever..so its just a switch that turns on and off with the power of light. most likely the black wire is the "hot" and the yellow is the neutral.
