Question:

I have a 13 year old son and he really wants a cockatiel his Step mom and his dad have had some baby cockatiel

and they have said he can take them when they reach 9 weeks of age he has done a whole lot of reading on these birds like hours worth of it is he responsible enogh to take care of one on his own?

  1. I was about his age when I got my first parakeet.  It worked out fine.  The question yous hould really be adsking yourself is if he looses interest what will happen to the cockatiel?  Will you take care of it?  Someone else?


  2. I'm 13 as well. Parakeets are ushually reveiwed as very easy birds to take care of. They hoever can be messy and they can get a virus f their cage isn't cleaned once a week. And they can't be fed just seed. They need their seed to be supplemented with fruits,veggies,and pellets.

  3. yes but they need a lot of attention or they will chirp like crazy

  4. just remember that birds take alot of care; feeding and watering the bird as well as cleaning the cage once or twice a week.  a good question to ask is do you think he will get tired of taking care of the bird once the newness of having it is gone
