Hello, I have a 1799 silver dollar and I have some questions: first of all I wanted to locate it on the PCGS guide, but I couldn't locate it exactly, because the position of the stars in the reverse doesn't match with any of the pictures in the web.

Second of all, I wanted to grade it by PCGS, does anyone know what is the best way to get it graded and is it worth it?

And finally, are the prices suggested at the PCGS for real? where could I sell my coin?

  1. You have one of the many fakes that have come into this country from China. The coin should weigh close to 26.96 grams and be around 39 to 40 mm in diameter. In the last 10 years silver dollars from 1794-1804 have come into the U.S. from China and Thailand and all are fakes. Some are so bad it is easy to tell and some are quite good but with little mistakes. I have a large collection of them all, for I have found they even get the types mixed up and they are coins that never were. It needs to go to a coin dealer who knows his stuff, for your chances of matching it up to the real thing is slim to none. He can weigh it also. Hope this points you in the right direction. Your question has showed up here a lot in the last year and the date is always 1799 but did have one 1804 once.
