I have a 18 hp briggs riding mower. how could i make it go fast?

  1. Check for lawn mower racing groups near you and for web sites about lawn mower racing.

The arm others talked about is probably the governor.  Changing this will overspeed the engine, not increase the speed much and kill the engine.  The way to make it go faster is to change the ratio between the front and rear pulleys.  Note, this will also decrease power.  Go to a lawnmower racing site and see what they do.  They also will use racing engines that are made for higher rpms.

  3. at 18 hp u can prob go 35 or 40 mph.  by changing the pulley (or gear) ratios and disconnecting the blades.  BUT there is no way you can safely turn at that speed. and the brakes would need serious up grading.  got a good crash helmet?

  4. there is the idle arm that when running you can pull it back towards you and this will idle higher, when the engine is not running, bend the idle arm back some, this will cange the speed...

  5. Why would you want it to go fast? It is designed to cut grass.
