I have a 1943 Steel(Silver?) and it's magnetic. How much it would be worth?

The other coin has 1943 and D below the number.

But this one only says " 1943" and Steel(Silver?) and it's magnetic.

How much is this coin would be worth?

  1. The 1943 silver colored penny is a wartime issue made of steel, and coated with zinc. During World War II, copper was so badly needed for the war effort (to make shell casings) that the U.S. penny was made out of steel that year, which is why most 1943 pennies are silver colored. They are worth about 12 to 15 cents each in ciruclated condition, and as much as 50 cents or more if Uncirculated.

  2. The cents you have are actually zinc coated steel so that is why they are magnetic. They struck 684,628,670 at the Philadelphia mint (no mint mark) and 217,660,000 at the Denver mint (D). As you can see the mintage's are very high and since they were a one year type they were saved so are not very scarce even in mint state grades. The coins have more of a historic value than a monetary one. It took to 1943 for the U.S. to start a come back from the attack by the Japanese. 1942 was a real bad year for this country and hope showed up in 1943, as well as a strange looking cent. Not all historical coins are expensive which makes it nice for us not so rich collectors. Keep it for in the end the value will go up, even though it make take a few more years. It is worth .05 to .25 cents if average circulated.

  3. What you have are steel pennies made during WWII to conserve copper for the war effort. They were originally coated in zinc to protect them steel from rust. The value depends on the condition of the coin. In average circulated condition your one cent pieces are worth 10 to 15 cents each. The "D" stands for the Denver mint. If it does not have a letter below the date then it was made at the Philadelphia mint.
