I have a 1954 evinrude fleetwin 7.5 that is not running properly?

i had to turn it to full throttle to get it to start but when i turned throttle past start position engine would die cannot get it to idle thinking it is a carb problem not sure please help

  1. My favorite motor of all time, I was in junior high when it came out.  I guess you know how old it is, but are you using the original pressurized fuel tank?   The hoses on these rot after a few years.  Then check out the spark.   They have two coils under the flywheel.  They crack with age, like me, and don't work so good.  A good practice is to run the carb dry of fuel after each use, but in time the cork float drys out, and then the engine runs rough.  These engines didn't use roller bearings on the rod, so lubrication is much more important.  I hope this helps.   Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
