It just happened recently. I tried putting the car in reverse and it would just rev the engine. It works normally when I put it into drive. I checked the transmission fluid and it is up to normal level. Do not know what the problem maybe, and would appreciate some input. Thanks

  1.     No reverse, the reverse band  may be broken, the servo seals leaking or broken internal linkage. This will cause  the trans. not to go into reverse. Take the trans. oil pan off and look to see if there is clutch material in the bottom of the pan. If there is the reverse band is wore. If no material look at linkage and at the band somtimes you can see the broken band.Major job.  good luck

  2. Does the fluid smell  llike its burnt if so it might need to be flushed and changed. Take it to a transmission shop they will tell you

  3. Automechtech is fairly spot on. The box will need an overhaul by the sounds. One other option Could be a stuck valve body, but it does sound like the reverse band is toasted. Good luck.

  4. nice car you have there! take the linkage loose and try shifting it off the transmission. i,am thinking the linkage is messed up, because neutral is close to reverse.

  5. Since it will not shift into reverse sounds like the transmission has gone bad.  Would you like to get rid of it since it cannot go backwards?
