  1. call a kawai dealer

  2. I assume it's one of the old 2 strokes. We used to run a 32-1 mixture. If it smokes too much, cut back on the oil by a couple percent.

  3. I don't know about the ratio, but if your oil pump stopped working and the engine was not shut down immediately it might be seriously damaged.

  4. You're lucky it's not a 500 or 750,they don't do so well on pre-mix.

400's all use  Kaw's "Superlube" oil injection,,,

which just pumps straight into crankcase so they do fine on pre-mix.

32:1 ,aka 4 oz oil to 1 gallon gasoline is standard,"failsafe" ratio

With Good Oil,,,You can safely go to 42:1,,,

    which is 3oz/gallon.

    Or,,40:1 is 1/2 Qt in 5 gallons,,,,3.2 oz/gal

BelRay MC1 oil is very good,

It's VERY clean and cool running.

And about the cheapest Good oil,,usually $6~7 qt

AMSOIL is also excellent,,,TDR or AIT

Regular "injector-ONLY" oil is diluted too much to  use confidently for pre-mix..

You need to plug the oil injection ports or eventually the engine will suck air thru them.

Those bikes were not bad at all on spark plugs,,

If you Do happen to befin to have plug fouling issues,

    Try some NGK Iridium Plugs

The 400's were probably "the best" overall bike of all the Kaw Triples,,,they were always my favorite.

    Really Nice riding bikes.

Of course they were not as Fast/quick as the Bigger ones,

but in Every Other comparrison the 400's beat it bigger brothers hands down..

    Good Luck
