I have a 1977 100 hp Mercury Outboard and i want it faster, can i replace the carburetors from a larger motor?

Or any other suggestions on how to make my 1977 100hp Mercury outboard faster? its a 15' v-haul, closed bow.

  1. actually if you change the carbs might make it run worse, like the others have stated changing the prop might help a little more, unless you are already running perfect, but even with a better prop you might only get a little more speed might not be worth the money.

    Another way to get more horsepower is to open up the exhaust ports, that will do more good than the prop, but you would need to have a machine shop do it, better off buying a larger engine


  2. Changing the carbs. will do nothing for you. Look into changing the prop.

  3. no. changing carbs wouldn't do anything as far a speed. you may want to reduce prop size
