I have a 1978 siver penny. I am guessing its copper it weighs 3.11 I am searching for answers please respond.?

very shiny, weighs 3.11, 1978 Lincoln penny has the very same characteristics of the 1943 copper penny

  1. There are no 1978 silver pennies.  Somebody dipped it in mercury, making an amalgam.   It has no value and is somewhat dangerous to have around due to mercury vapor.

      The 1943 grey penny was not copper, it was steel to save copper during the war.


  2. This has been asked before and you will not get the answer you want. It has been either zinc or silver plated and if slippery and very shinny then it has been coated with mercury. it is not a mint product period. You only have a damaged 1978 cent. Most plating is so thin it adds little weight. The plating may make up the weight lost from being in circulation, before being plated. I am sorry no one can tell you what you want to hear or read.
