  1. You can do the mods listed above.

But, your car has a Small Block Chevy.   It's the best engine of all time, and the winningest race engine of all time.

AND, it came in lots of different sizes.   The 305 was a smog motor.   Yes, you can make it run better, but by the time you spend all that money to make it run somewhat better, you could have searched Craigslist and found you a 350, 383, or 400 Small Block Chevy and you'd be light years ahead of anything you'll get out of the 305....and any of them will bolt right in.

  2. keep it simple and easy--go to a 350 or a mild 383 stroker motor  they drop right in and will push the car very well !! a 9.1 motorin that car will tear it up !! you'll have blast and it wont kill your daily driver car... and will run on pump gas if built correctly... look up "skip white " performace on ebay or the net .. good guys and very helpful. they wont sell you a bunch of stuff you wont need.. if you do go this route, be sure you have at least a 700r4 or 350th trans to back it up.. it will surprise you  !!!!

  3. exhaust, headers, heads, supercharger, cold air intake, drop some weight out of the car, new rear end gearing, nitrous, etc

  4. I had a stock '85 Monte Super Sport with the factory L69 305 and 3:73 gears and the fastest it ever ran, which was one time because of perfect weather, was 15.97 @ 85 mph. Most of the time it was a 16.20 to 16.40 car.

After the SS I had a regular '84 Monte with a 305 and 2:73's that ran 17.60 something.

Later I put on header's and true dual 2.5" full exhaust with 2-chamber flowmaster's and a non computer GM Carb and a non computer HEI Distributor.

It suddenly became a 16.20 to 16.40 car and one night it ran 16.01!

So start with intake and exhaust, then gear's. The 305 will never give neck breaking performance but build a foundation then go for a 350 and all the other components will already be there.

Tuned Port Injection(TPI) is an option too!

EDIT: Wow! Who's the fool handing out all the thumbs down?
