Most of the older Ford stereos used a common ground speaker system. Modern head units use a bridged output which requires that there be no connection of the speaker wires to ground, or to another speaker. If you have 8 speaker wires in the factory harness, check them for ground with a multimeter and make sure there are no jumpers to another speaker wire. If your speaker harness only has 5 wires, you'll need to run new speaker wire to the speakers.
