I was wondering what type of transmission the 4 speed manual is and what the difference is between the 4 speed and 5 speed?

  1. four speed manual means you have four gears, and a clutch. The higher you go up in gears the easier it is on your car and gas. I'm assuming you know that you shift gears as you increase speed. If you have a five speed you have five gears, and can potentially go faster. The higher the gear, the less your car has to work. So if you had a five speed you would be around 2000 rpm's at sixty, and if you have a four speed it'll be arounf 3000 rpm's.

  2. The standard 4 speed manual transmission has 3 forward speed gearings and 1 reverse speed gearing.  A 5 speed manual transmission has a 4th forward speed gearing.

  3. The difference is 1 extra forward gear.  The 5 speed manual will have a higher complexity in its overall design than a 4 speed.  Also there will be less of an RPM gap between gear shifts.  Your engine will have a better chance to run at its most efficient RPM band/range.

  4. one is a 4 speed, and the other is a 5 speed. thank you.

  5. On a 5 speed, 4th is direct drive and 5th is over drive. On a 4 speed, 4th is still direct drive and there's no over drive,
