I have a 1989 Ford F-150 4.9 liter V6. The problem is that immediately after starting the truck, the whole truck shakes and sounds like it is about to flutter out. It had just enough power to drive slow to the other side of my street so I could avoid a parking ticket. So it drives, but it struggles for every yard of distance it can cover. It has gas, and power is going to my stereo. Any help would be appreciated.

  1. It could be anything...you name it...

have your fuel and ignition systems checked. Might be your tranny as well...

    Good luck!

  2. Can be numerous things but lets try the simple things first. Is it having black smoke coming out the tail pipe while running or try to accelerate? Most likely a MAP sensor. On your fuel rail is a vacuum line attached to the fuel pressure regulator. Pull it off the regulator and make sure no gas is passing into the vacuum line. If it is a bad fuel pressure regulator. Do a good visual inspection and make sure no vacuum lines are broke or not placed to proper place. Check wiring harness for chaffing or broke in harness. Any of these you should be able to repair and if none are present then can only recommend to have it diagnosed at dealership or local garage with a good reputation.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Most likely you have either bad plugs and wires or bad distributor cap.

this would cause it to misfire and  make the truck shake.and would also cause a major  power loss.
