for doing normal driving, what rpm should i shift at to get good fuel economy and also to make it easy on the engine?

also: my dad was getting me into racing (on a track) with my car. what rpm should i shift at when racing to get best acceleration and times?

it redlines at 8000

  1. Rx-7s never got good mileage. Just test yourself where the car will pull the next higher gear, the engines liked to accelerate but don't count on the upper range for milage ,all gas engines lose effiency at high RPMs the gas doen't stay in the combustion chamber long enogh..

    Acelleration is a function of TORQUE not horsepower. Dont worry about the engine track times are gotten by chassis and lines, go to a race driving school.


  2. First question: easy. RX-7s love mid-revs, so try around 5500.

    Second: harder. In a straight line, just wait till it hits 8000. Going round corners, it all depends. Halfway through a corner, i'd wait till it hit 8000, beginning acceleration right after an apex, probably 6000 or so.
