I have a 1990 v6 montero that is leaking water bad from on top of the transmission back of motor any ideas?

it's not the heater core I bypassed that

  1. water intake or outlet housing cracked or just a gasket


  2. Is it clear water (condensate from air conditioner) or coolant (heater hoses)?  Otherwise clean and dry the engine, then see if you can tell where it is coming from.

  3. first your transmission doesnt use water so you need to find were the water is comming from the diagnose the problem it has to be traveling along the engine block from somewere gcould be a hole from heater core etc keep looking till you find the source  

  4. It may not be your heater core, but I'm sure you used a hose and clamps to bypass it, ck your hose. There is nothing else back there unless you have a freeze plug leaking.

  5. Yep. Pull the engine. You probably have leaking freeze plugs.
