  1. Thats normal, unburnt oil on the reed valves causes that,my motor does the same thing

  2. That is normal and there are several reasons.

A poorly atomized fuel mixture resulting in unburnt fuel at startup.

Enriched fuel mixture due to use of choke at start up.

Exhaust area is cold and does not completely burn off any unburnt fuel exiting the engine.

Since you dont know a lot about outboard engines, find a shop you can trust.  Modern outboards are amazingly reliable and require very little in the way of maintenance.  Depending on your useage, the water pump impeller should be replaced every year to three years.  Change gear lube at least annually and watch for signs of leakage or water in the lube.  Use good gas, try to not store it with a bunch of old gas if storing for long periods.  Avoid alcohol based fuels if you can.  Use top quality two stroke lube, TCW III or whatever the latest rating is.  It doesnt have to be from the engine maker, but make sure it carries the same ratings.

Now, go catch some fish  !!

    enjoy,

  3. Quit while you're ahead.

  4. Why is it MOURNING? Is it sad. It's spelled MORNING.

  5. If it is a 2 stroke, I would check to make sure your oil mix is right. All 2 stroke motors tend to smoke when you first start them.Nothing to worry about. Buy a 4 stroke. Much better engine.

  6. This is normal. Make sure you are not using too much choke to start. Check for proper mixture. Oil and gas!
