It was really bad until I had the fuel filter replaced plus a tune-up & muffler work done 1 month ago - below 1900 RPMs, seemed like the engine could barely run & accelerating was difficult, if not virtually impossible. It also had the bad-muffler growl & vibration.

It got much better after that work was finished - almost perfect. Now it's getting worse again. My mechanic says I might need a new distributor. Yikes! I'm nervous that this is only the beginning of my problems as the previous owners did not believe in tune-ups and EVERYTHING (spark plugs & all except the transmission which was rebuilt in 2004) was original until last month. Isn't it possible that the problem is the distibutor cap or a plugged EGR valve?

I would appreciate any help!! If indeed I require a new distributor, what should that run and will it be worth it for this car?

  1. replace the cap, rotor, wires and plugs. spray the dist clean with brake clean. it prolly has oil in it. you may need to change the valve cover gasket and plug tube seals, as they tend to leak into the plug tubes and ground out the ignition wires. if the EGR was plugged it would work fine. If it was stuck open it would run like **** all the time. if the wires are OE they may be grounding out somewhere in the plug tubes or the cap can be grounding out if the dist. shaft seal is leaking. i ran my accord about 60k on a leaky dist. shaft seal. i would just clean it out every once in a while when i remembered. its still running now, my friend has it. 190K on the motor. changed the timing belt 4 times. runs like a champ, i love hondas!!
