  1. Generally when oil pressure is low (confirmed with mechanical gauge), the engine bearings are bad, rod main and cam bearings. These bearings wear over time allowing too much clearance which will keep the pump from being able to build pressure, the only cure would be an engine overhaul.

If you are going strictly by the gauge in the truck, I would replace the oil sending unit. This gauge will only read low or normal only as it's more of an idiot light than a real gauge that reads real time pressure. If you still have a low reading, have the pressure checked with a mechanical gauge. Good luck.

  2. I would suspect the sender, not only because I have had to replace ones on Fords but also because it is easier to get to. They are also cheaper.

The is another possibility, which is that the crank case in under-filled. Had this happen once. I found out by looking at the dip stick when I changed the oil. I fill the the crank case with the amount of oil it needed (4 quarts in my case) and looked at the dipstick. It was over the full mark. Which told me that some one had replaced the dip stick at some time with the wrong one. The result was that I was two quarts low when I thought I was only one quart low.

  3. First thing to do is change the oil and filter if you haven't done it in a well, the next thing to do is replace the sending unit,Is the motor making a ticking or trapping noise ,if so your oil could be dirty are your oil pump is bad .
