Last month I was driving and my passenger front shocked popped out. I pulled over and popped the hood and the rubber bushing and bolt was missing. I tied the shock to the coil spring and took it to a tire store. They told me no luck fixing it. How do I fix this problem? Do they make a polyurethane bushing for the top of the shock where it comes up through the firewall? Or are my shocks too short? They came with the lift so I'm hoping they wouldn't be. Anyone out there...Please help

  1. You might also try going to a junk yard and pulling one from a stock Grand Cherokee.  It may or may not be the same size but worth a shot as you should get the nut/bushing for cheap.  OR if you had a buddy with a stock Grand you could see if one of thiers fit before you went to the junk yard.

  2. The main thing to do is to contact the manufacturer of your lift kit and talk to someone there.  Hopefully it is a reputable company...if not you may get lucky calling Skyjacker or Tuffcountry to get some help from a customer service rep.  I would bet that your manufacturer has seperate parts that can be ordered for your kit and if not you should be able to pull the other side's bolt and bushing to use in a comparison to find replacements.

Also, who installed your lift kit?  If it was a shop I'd take it back to them and insist on some repairs for free.

Regardless of who installed the lift I would get to checking my other shocks and the rest of the kit.

A cheaper kit means cheaper bolts.  You start beating them and they'll break long before the higher grade bolts of the more expensive kits.  A trip to a fastener store for higher-grade bolts may be in order.

  3. start by looking at your shocks, if they are stock looking then they are diffinately to short. if not, odds are they the right length. to check put your jeep on jackstands and let the axles hang, disconnect your shocks and if the axle drops more then they are to short. either order longer shocks or shock extentions. as for the missing bolt, you can call the manufacturer of the shocks and order a bushing and nut or try the dealership, or junk yard. after it's fixed i would definately check the length of the shock.
