I bought the bike a month ago and it ran, but wouldnt idle, and lost power at full throttle. The last time I rode it I was on my way home full throttle in fifth gear, and it just bogged down and died. I pushed it home because it wouldnt start. So I rebuilt the carb, and eplaced the reeds. One of the reeds was ripped in half. After putting the reed cage and carb back in it wouldnt start. It was left in a rain storm and the intake was left uncovered as was the bike. I wanna Ride my Blaster. Please Gimme a hand.

  1. Obviously your ignition system isn't working, so start there. But first get all the water out of the intake system. If you try to start it and there is water in the intake you can destroy the engine.

If you're not skilled at troubleshooting electrical systems you might as well take it to a shop before you do more damage. But if you intend to go it alone do get a Yamaha shop manual for it.

  2. You might try some fresh fuel and a new spark plug. Also check for a good spark at the spark plug. Sometimes old oiI will foul the upper and lower end. Getting the old oil out of the lower end sometimes requires pouring gasoline or solvent down the engine and sloshing it around and then turning the engine upside down to get the gasoline or solvent out of the lower end. I wonder if the lower end seals are leaking. Place your hand over the carb inlet when someone kicks it over with the throttle wide open. It should suck your hand to the carb. If you don't have much suction during the test, sounds like you have an air leak in the lower end. Air is entering from the crankshaft seal on the dry side of the crank.
